In my last blog, I told you why I chose Istanbul for my solo trip and gave you a few tips to prevent you from getting lost in town.
Travelling solo doesn’t mean you will be alone all through rather it offers you the opportunity to meet new people and open your heart to new activities. Remember what Jacqueline Boone said “Traveling solo does not always mean you’re alone. Most often, you meet marvelous people along the way and make connections that last a lifetime.” I spoke a lot about this in my last blog. So go on and read at https://lifeinmycamera.wordpress.com/2017/02/17/why-i-choose-istanbul-as-my-first-solo-trip-experiences-and-lessons/
You knew I wasn’t going to leave you without a few of the numerous activities I enjoyed right? Wink so here are some of them. Try to make new discoveries and don’t limit yourself to my list because what I am sharing with you is just a tip of my Istanbul-fun- iceberg
BOSPHOROUS NIGHT CRUISE WITH DINNING EXPERIENCE
If you do visit Istanbul, make sure you go on a boat cruise on the Bosphorous and see the breath-taking Bosphorous bridge at night. I decided to go on an all-night music and dinner date where I was treated to amazing Turkish cuisine and coffee! Please taste the coffee because it’s in a class of its own. And oh! There were belly dancers with all the Turkish moves. I really had fun. You can just book at your hotel as they usually have information on the night cruise schedules.
Bosphorous at night! Sipping a glass of my favourite glass “Baron d’Arignac” … oh and the view!
During the day, you can set side time to go on a boat cruise to see the views at daytime. Watch out for the birds and take some selfies!

VISIT THE GRAND AND SPICE BAZAARS AND TRY OUT TURKISH FOODS
Try out some Turkish delights, my favourite was lokum at the bazaar and if possible smile for a picture and get some for free… hahaha!
Smiling for a picture to get souvenirs in return at the Spice Bazaar. See every stranger as a potential friend not an enemy. Love the world with your heart!
Make sure you roam through the bazaar, Grand bazaar or spice bazaar and shop for some souvenirs.
Inside the Grand Bazaar…
Try their mouth-watering kebabs, and the Turkish pizza called pide! Try the döner sandwich. Yh!yh! yh! I went food tasting! You can say that again but I just couldn’t help it. Come to think of it, it all adds to the cultural exchange you know and moreover they are very affordable! Simit bread for instance will only cost you 1 lira!($0.27). Come on! just make sure you taste one.
Enjoying my Simit bread at the park
VISIT THE BLUE MOSQUE AT NIGHT
Visit the Blue mosque at night and sit by the fountain. The lights are beautiful and the sound of the water is Its relaxing!
Beautiful view of the blue mosque at night.
When you go on solo trips, you get lots of photographers who take amazing pictures for you. This is one of such pictures taken by a stranger with the beautiful blue mosque in sight!
VISIT HAGIA SOPHIA
Go to Hagia Sophia and take a look! At the amazing architecture. My battery run low here so I was unable to take pictures from the inside! That’s why you are going there remember? You are going to create your own memories and make discoveries of your own.
ROAM THE STREETS AND DON’T BE SCARED OF GETTING LOST!
Roam the streets and take a look at the amazing architectures and whiles you are at it, please take pictures;)
VISIT FAITH AND SPEND TIME WITH THE BIRDS
Enjoy time with the birds at Faith. Just buy them some grains and they will come running to you
SPEND TIME FISHING ON THE GALATA BRIDGE
Make time to visit the Galata bridge, fish with the fishermen and enjoy the morning view
Galata bridge during the day …after fishing with some really interesting fishermen and spending time with the birds at Faith
Don’t worry about getting lost. I gave you tips on how to prevent that and even if it happens how to find your way back so let yourself lose and explore the city of Istanbul as much as you can.
SIT AND RELAX BY THE WAYSIDE AND ENJOY THE VIEW OF LOCALS BUSY ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS
Sit and read a book at a way-side café and enjoy the view of the people moving along the streets. you get free WI-FI as an added advantage 🙂 read about that on my previous blog.
See the Galata tower at night. Pay and climb up to see the city from top.
GO FOR A TURKISH BATH!!! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!
The most amazing experience next to enjoying dinner on the night cruise and the watching the belly dancers was taking my Turkish bath. I wouldn’t take any pictures of what happened inside but I enjoyed every bit of the experience. Do not say it is too expensive, just pay and enjoy it!
I can go on and on with pictures but let these serve as pointers for you as you discover more for yourself.
Let’s try this just to be sure you actually roam and discover new places for yourself; there is this amazing garden up on a hill overlooking the sea where you are served Turkish tea and coffee for about 8-10 liras. The garden has a nice view of the sea and you are assured of a calming effect! Find that place! No picture to show you, when you find that place, you will know it!
Half of the time people just exist rather than live. Dare yourself to go on a solo trip and I bet you will want to keep doing it! Put it on your to-do-list definitely before you turn 30!… once you take the first trip, you will want to keep going!
“Do you really want to look back on your life and see how wonderful it could have been had you not been afraid to live in?” – Caroline Myss
